Terms of Service
Last updated: February 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Halo Aware — our AI safety dashboard for families. By creating an account, you agree to these terms.
We've written these in plain English because we want you to actually understand them.
1. What You're Agreeing To
These terms are a legal agreement between you and Halo Aware. When you create an account or use our service, you're agreeing to everything in this document.
If you don't agree with these terms, please don't use Halo Aware.
2. Who Can Use Halo Aware
To use Halo Aware, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be the parent or legal guardian of any child you add to the service
- Have appropriate legal authority to monitor the child's device
- Use the service in compliance with applicable laws
Children do not create accounts themselves. Halo Aware is designed for parents and guardians.
3. What Halo Aware Does
Halo Aware is an AI safety tool that helps parents understand how their children use AI chat platforms like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini.
Our service includes:
- A browser extension that monitors AI chat activity only
- Topic summaries showing what your child discusses with AI
- Usage statistics (time spent, platforms used)
- Safety alerts when concerning content is detected
We do not monitor general web browsing, social media, email, or any activity outside supported AI chat platforms.
For full details on how we handle data, please read our Privacy Policy.
4. Your Account
When you create an account, you agree to:
- Keep your login credentials secure and confidential
- Provide accurate information when signing up
- Update your information if it changes
- Accept responsibility for all activity under your account
Accounts are for individual use. Please don't share your login with others. If you want another parent to access your family dashboard, use our family member invitation feature instead.
5. Your Responsibilities
By using Halo Aware, you agree to:
- Use the service lawfully and ethically
- Only monitor children you have legal authority to monitor
- Respect your child's privacy as they grow
- Not attempt to circumvent, reverse engineer, or misuse the service
- Not use the service to harass, stalk, or violate anyone's rights
We encourage families to discuss monitoring openly. Transparency builds trust. The extension is designed to be visible to your child — it's not a hidden spy tool.
6. Acceptable Use

9. Intellectual Property
What we own: Halo Aware owns the service, software, website, branding, and all related intellectual property.
What you own: You own your data — your account information, your children's profiles, and your family's usage data. We don't claim ownership of your data.
Your licence: We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the service for its intended purpose while your subscription is active.
10. What You Can Expect From Us
We commit to:
- Making reasonable efforts to keep the service available
- Notifying you of significant changes to features or pricing
- Handling your data according to our Privacy Policy
- Responding to support requests in a reasonable timeframe
But we can't promise everything
- 100% uptime (no service can promise this)
- That our AI will catch every concerning conversation
- That our summaries will be perfectly accurate
- Compatibility with future browser or platform changes
11. Limitation of Liability
Here's the important part, in plain language:
Halo Aware is a tool to help you stay informed. It's not a replacement for parenting, professional advice, or direct communication with your child.
AI systems aren't perfect. Our classification may miss things or flag false positives. You shouldn't rely solely on our alerts to keep your child safe.
We're not responsible for what your child says to AI platforms, or what AI platforms say back. We don't control third-party services.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Halo Aware's liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.
We are not liable for:
- Missed alerts, delayed alerts, or false positives
- Decisions you make based on information from our service
- Actions your child takes online
- Third-party services, platforms, or AI tools
- Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
12. Indemnification
You agree to protect and hold Halo Aware harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from:
- Your violation of these terms
- Your misuse of the service
- Monitoring someone without proper legal authority to do so
- Your violation of any applicable laws
13. Termination
When we may terminate your account
We may suspend or terminate your account if you:
- Violate these terms
- Use the service unlawfully
- Fail to pay for a paid subscription
- Engage in abusive behaviour toward our team or other users
When you may terminate
You can close your account at any time by:
- Using the "Delete Account" option in Settings
- Contacting us at support@haloaware.com
What happens after termination
- Your data is deleted according to our retention policy
- Paid subscriptions: no refunds for remaining time (unless required by law)
- You may export your data before deletion if you wish
14. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we make significant changes:
- We'll notify you by email or within the app
- We'll update the "Last updated" date at the top
- We'll give you reasonable notice before changes take effect
Continuing to use Halo Aware after changes means you accept the updated terms. If you disagree with any changes, please stop using the service and contact us.
15. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of England and Wales, unless you're entitled to use a different jurisdiction under consumer protection laws.
Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
16. General Provisions
- Severability: If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
- No waiver: If we don't enforce a term immediately, we haven't waived our right to enforce it later.
- Entire agreement: These terms, along with our Privacy Policy, are the complete agreement between us.
- No transfer: You can't transfer your account or these terms to someone else.
